Thank you to everyone who engaged with our online consultation for Hale Road Cottages.
With any new development it is important that we listen to the concerns of the local community at every stage of the planning and construction process. This is more important than ever with a much-loved site like Hale Road Cottages, to ensure that we deliver a project that respects these historic buildings and the local environment while delivering much-needed, high-quality homes.
Due to the restrictions imposed by the current COVID-19 pandemic, rather than holding a face-to-face consultation we chose to run the consultation via our Facebook page. The consultation ran from 26 May to 3 June 2020.
Questions and answers
Below you will find your questions submitted via social media and email, along with our answers. Where a number of people have asked similar questions, we have collated these into one response which we hope addresses all of the concerns raised. In the case of customers asking specific questions relating to their own circumstances or applications, we will respond directly.
Q: Are the bungalows and cottages for sale?
The cottages and bungalows are available for rent only.
Q: What is happening with the trees on the site?
There is one tree on site with a preservation order. We will be replanting trees within the local area to replace the ones which will be taken down.
Q: What has been done to protect wildlife on the site?
We have commissioned an ecologist who carried out a survey before work commenced to identify any wildlife on site. This has confirmed that there is active nesting on site and we will not disturb any active nests until the chicks have fledged. This means there will be a delay to work starting on site until late August or early September.
Q: Will there be an option for the bungalows to have private rather than communal gardens?
During planning we decided that the bungalows will have a communal garden. We made this decision because we have noticed that many customers currently living in similar accommodation, through no fault of their own, struggle to keep their gardens maintained. The communal space will be maintained, through rent charges, by SLH and will be enhanced by linking into our project at Grow Speke to grow fresh fruit and vegetables.
Q: Will the cottages have private gardens?
The cottages will have their own communal garden, separate to the communal gardens belonging to the bungalows. Like the bungalow communal gardens, the cottages’ communal space will be maintained, through the rent charges, by SLH and will be enhanced by linking into our project at Grow Speke to grow fresh fruit and vegetables.
Q: Will the cottages have upstairs or downstairs toilets?
The toilet will be located upstairs in all of the cottages.
Q: Are pets allowed in the development?
Pets will be allowed but as with all tenancies, they must be managed responsibly.
Q: Is there a separate waiting list for the cottages and bungalows?
The cottages and bungalows will be allocated to customers in priority and date order. If you are not already on our waiting list please apply via the Think South Liverpool website.
