Construction is ongoing at the Hale Road Cottages site in Speke, which will see a new community of 17 accessible two-bedroom bungalows built around three sympathetically-refurbished Grade II listed cottages.
Work was halted at the site on Hale Road, Speke, in summer 2020 following an environmental assessment, to prevent the disturbance of birds nesting in the trees. With the birds now fledged, contractor Avela Developments will now continue construction, with the aim of providing 20 new homes for rent in early 2022.
Construction work will focus first on the new bungalows, which will form an inclusive community built around a central hub with communal gardens, before attention is turned to the sympathetic restoration of the 18th century cottages, which will be restored in line with their Grade II listed status, while providing modern levels of space and energy-efficiency.
With activity increasing at the site we are keen to keep local residents informed and avoid unnecessary disruption in the area. SLH is liaising closely with nearby All Saints Church to ensure that construction does not interfere with the activities at the church.
We are also working closely with Avela Developments to ensure that construction traffic enters the site via Speke Hall Avenue, rather than through the Speke estate, to minimise the impact on local residents.
In May 2020 we completed an online consultation exercise with the local community whose questions were answered here. If you have any issues or concerns as construction continues, please contact Avela Developments contracts manager Mark Woods on 07949 772 129 or email email@example.com.
The cottages and bungalows will be allocated to applicants in priority and date order. If you are not already on our waiting list please apply via the Think South Liverpool website.
